Christmas Questions

Hello everyone.
Sorry for not posting in a while, just been busy busy busy! I saw this on Faith's blog and thought it looked like fun, so here we go!

The 12 Questions of Christmas
1. Open gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day: Both actually. I'm half English and half Icelandic, and in Iceland you open the presents on Christmas Eve, but Christmas Day in England, so we always open the presents from Iceland on Christmas Eve and then the presents from my family in England the next morning. :) So I get two Christmases!
2. Fav Christmas Song: White Christmas - Bing Crosby
3. Fav Christmas/holiday Movie: Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas.
4. Fav Christmas decoration: I love the lights :) Especially outside, they make everything look so magical!
5. Fav Christmas Food: Candy canes
6. Fav Holiday/winter drink: Hot Chocolate!
7. Snow or no snow: Snow! Sadly we only have a tiny bit this year (But it's snowing everywhere else in Europe, ironic much?) but it's supposed to snow more tonight!
8. Do you send out cards or no cards: No..but my parents do.
9. Do you say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"?: Happy Christmas actually, but when I'm at work (I work in a shop) I usually say Happy Holidays.
10. Tree or No Tree: Tree. I love picking them out, and usually choose a really ugly one because I feel so sorry for it! haha :)
11. Does your family do Gift Exchange or buy gifts for each person? We buy gifts for each person. But my brother, sister and me pair up to give each other gifts and then we all give our parents a gift together.
12. Best Christmas Memory: Two years ago when there wasn't any snow on Christmas Eve and then when I woke up on Christmas Day the ground was covered with snow! My sister and I made a snowman called HallfreĆ°ur (which literally means 'leaning and frozen') because the snowman was so crooked. He stayed up for about a week and always went a bit more crooked until he fell over.
And just for fun (since this is a beauty blog): Favorite Winter Beauty Product: Can't really think of anything... probably something from Lush, which we don't have anymore in Iceland, sadly.

That's all from me, I'll leave you with a picture of my snowman:

That's me on the left, and my sister on the right.

Happy Christmas everyone! I hope you are all well and have a wonderful end of the year, whatever you're doing. :)

Just a quick post to show you what the skirt I bought yesterday looks like on:

A Perfect Day

I love shopping. There's nothing quite like the feeling you get when you buy something pretty. :)
I decided that I need a new skirt so last night I was looking at the Topshop website and I saw a skirt I looooved. But I just had the feeling that the they wouldn't have the skirt, because life likes to do that to me. But they did! It was on the "Buy now or regret it later" rack so I grabbed my size, tried it one, loved it, and bought it.
Then I went to Accessorize and bought a 20's style pearl necklace (that's how it's described on the website).
Feeling very happy with my purchases I went to MAC with no idea what to buy.
I almost got the Well Dressed blush, but decided against it because a) I already have a light pink blush, and b) when I swatched it I noticed that it was a bit shimmery and I don't like shimmery blushes. So instead I got Amber Lights e/s, because I've heard so many good things about it. I'm so happy with the service I got at MAC, the last couple of times I've been there the MA's have been a bit...well just not very nice. It's like they looked me up and down and decided that I wasn't good enough to be in there or something, but the MA that was there today was lovely and very helpful. :)
Anyway, here are the things I got:

Skirt from Topshop, necklace from Asseccorize and Amber lights e/s from MAC

A closeup of the pattern

I took this picture to justify to myself that All that glitters (left) and Amber lights (right) are not similar colours and I need to own both, and as you can see they're completely different!

I'm going to wear the skirt tonight so I'll probably post an outfit of the night post tomorrow. :)

Hope you're all well!

Review: John Frieda's Luxurous Volume shampoo & conditioner

About a month and a half ago I purchased John Frieda's Luxurious Volume shampoo and conditioner. I got the small ones (50ml) to see whether or not I liked them.

The shampoo

This is what it promises to do:
* Instantly activates the volume process in the shower
* The light-weight formula helps build hair's inner strength and fortifies fine hair
* Formulated with a fantastic cleansing ability to help remove build up that can weight hair down, leaving it squeaky clean with no feel of residue

taken from the John Frieda website.

My opinion
I can't say I was really blown away by this. The formula is very light, and it is great for removing product build-up; it really did leave my hair squeaky clean! As for the volumising bit, it did nothing. I have rather thick hair, but it tends to look flat and if I wear my hair down my ears stick out (which I hate), so I was looking for a product that would prevent that. I did not notice any difference in volume, but if you have fine hair, it might work for you.

The conditioner

What it promises to do:
* The Luxurious Volume Thickening Conditioner starts the volume process in the shower by strengthening and fortifying fine hair
* The lightweight conditioner revitalises fine hair without weighing it down and targets dry areas with needed moisture
* Helps reduce hair breakage, repair damage and enhances hairs elasticity
* Designed to improve manageability by smoothing away knots, responsiveness by adding body and bounce and ease of styling to promote healthy full-bodied shine
* In addition the unique formulation reduces static in fine hair and helps to prevent flyaways
* Adds volume and glossy shine

My opinion
This conditioner did nothing for me. It's not rich enough for my liking, you need quite a lot of it, whereas with my favourite conditioner, the Fructis one by Garnier, you only need a tiny amount. As for reducing hair breakage, I noticed that I had split ends (which I hardly ever get) after having been using this for about a month, though this may be due to the fact that I haven't had my hair cut in ages.
My hair tangles very easily and gets extremely static during this time of year and while using this it did not improve at all, again, my Garnier Fructis conditioner is much better at preventing tangling.

A couple of weeks after buying the shampoo and conditioner I got the thickening mousse, but I won't review it since I've only used it a few times.

All in all I wasn't blown away by these products, the shampoo is good at cleaning your hair, but didn't add any volume in my case and the conditioner did nothing at all.

However the packaging is nice and the product smells good. But I don't think I will be repurchasing.

I do like John Frieda as a brand though, I used their Curl Around line back when I had a perm and I love their Brilliant Brunette line (especially the smell!)

So that's it for my review, I hope it helped you if you are thinking about giving these a try, but keep in mind that everyone's hair is different and you might find that you love it!

Belated LotN

Sorry for the lack of posting! I just haven't had much to post about and I've been swamped with school.
Just thought I'd quickly show you how I ended up wearing my makeup to that dance I posted about a couple of weeks ago. I decided to go with red lips and a very neutral eye, since the dress I wore was such a statement in itself.
I went to buy a red lipstick the day before the dance, and there wasn't much choice, but I got a Maybelline Watershine lipstick in Cherry Candy (number 80) and a lipliner from Gosh in Simply Red.
I'm quite new to lipsticks so I can't really give it a proper review, but I liked it. I might go to Mac sometime though and get them to help me choose a red lipstick, since I have no idea what undertones I have or whether a lipstick is blue or orange based. :)

I'll be doing a review on the John Freida shampoo I bought a while ago, probably later this week.

Hope you're all well and enjoying the beginning of winter!

PS I'm so happy! I won Tacky Blue Eyeshadow's giveaway. Her blog is amazing, and she recently posted pictures of all of her red lipstick and says what she likes about each one! If only I'd seen it before my dance.

PPS Oh! I just discovered the macro setting on my camera! So now I can take better close-up photos. Yay.

A non makeup related post

It snowed today. It was the first snow of the season so I went out for a walk with a friend, my little winter tradition. Here's what I love about winter:
Hot chocolate
Hot buttered toast and hot chocolate
Hot baths
Sleeping with my window open when it's snowing outside, all warm and cosy under my quilt
Wandering around town when it's snowing with hot chocolate with my best friend
Can you tell I love hot chocolate
Reading in bed when there's a snowstorm outside
Wintery films like, White Christmas, Beauty and the Beast 2 and so many more.

I live in the north (Iceland, to be precise) so I'm pretty much guaranteed to get snow every year, and I'm not complaining!

Sorry if you don't like snow, or live somewhere where there isn't any. I feel very sorry for you!

A little picture of the snow that I took, it's not good because the snow hasn't settled yet so there wasn't any point in showing you the road, I'll take a better picture later. :)

Now I'm off to have a bath and then curl up with a book (ignoring the fact that I have school tomorrow). :)

What are your favourite things about winter?

Slight makeup/fashion crisis!

I'm going to a ball/dance thing on Thursday and I've already decided what I'm going to wear (that's a start at least!) but when I was thinking about what sort of makeup I should wear with it especially on the eyes, my mind drew a complete blank. Now my friends aren't really that into makeup, they wear it but they don't really talk about it. And then it suddenly dawned on me that I could ask you guys 'cause you all love makeup!
So I'm posting a couple of pictures of the dress I'll be wearing and I would love if you could give me any tips on what to do makeup-wise, focusing on the eyes.

Just in case you can't see the colours properly they're green, red, blue and a bit of yellow and white.

Here is a picture of all my eyeshadows, just so you have an idea on what I have to work with, though I might be persuaded to buy others if I need to and it's not too expensive, i.e. not Mac. :)

Starting from the top L-R:
GOSH driftwood quad, aloha quad, tropical beach quad, glamour pigment, ocean drive trio and yellow eyeshadow
Artdeco eyeshadow duo, zara duo (no idea why I have this!), Prestige quad, the Body Shop pink, weird pink/peach something, brown and Clinique blue lagoon.
And finally Mac Print, Sable, Shroom, All that glitters, Sushi flower and Fig 1.

Any suggestions much appreciated, but here are some of my own thoughts:
Black smokey eye
Neutral eye with heavy eyeliner
Simple, neutral eye with red lipstick

If you have any other ideas, suggestions or tips I would be very grateful!
I forgot to take a picture, but I also have black eyeliner, liquid and pencil, purple glittery pencil, dark blue liquid eyeliner, blue glitter liquid eyeliner and, of course mascara, along with all the face stuff. I will also be happy to have an excuse to buy a new lipstick if someone suggest a particular colour as I only have two (horror!)

Thanks so much

P.S. My giveaway ends in 4 days, I have just over 80 entries (!) but sadly I don't think I'll be able to add more to the present as I still haven't got paid for some work I did in August (annoying much?) but if I get paid soon I'll add something. :)

Nails of the Day

First of all, let me just say WOW! I got 20 new followers in three days! I'm so amazed and grateful that you wanted to join my giveaway, I honestly thought I'd be lucky if I got ten entries. So thanks, and keep them coming! I will be adding more prizes I think, it just depends how much money I get paid at the end of the month. :)

On Sunday I decided to try out the Rainbow nail polish from GOSH that I got this weekend and just thought I'd show you what it looks like.
I applied a base coat from OPI, two coats of black nail polish called Black Onyx, also from OPI and one coat of GOSH's Rainbow. I didn't use a top coat because I hate my Sally Hansen Mega Shine top coat (it makes the polish peel off the nail, awful!) and I haven't been able to find the OPI top coat I used to have (love). So this is what it looks like, I tried to angle it so you could see both the colours. It goes a bit orangey/yellow when you look straight at it, but then turns green.

Hope you're all well,

Gone Shopping...

Today I went shopping for some prizes for my giveaway. It was sooooo hard to find anything! While I was looking I bought myself a couple of things..actually a little more than a couple. I didn't realise how much I'd bought 'till I got home and took a picture.. oh well!

Clockwise from right: Colossal Volum' Express mascara from Maybelline; The Body Shop kabuki brush; GOSH "touch up" concealer no 2; John Freida luxurious volume shampoo and conditioner; GOSH nailpolish in 546: Rainbow, Artdeco eyeshadow duo in shades 90 and 95; The Body Shop bronzing powder no 1.

Swatches: GOSH concealer; the Body Shop bronzer, Artdeco eyeshadows 90 and 95

I repurchased the mascara because I've finished my old one. I really like it, except I'm not too keen on the smell. One coat gives me length and volume, without being too dramatic for school. Two coats gives a more dramatic effect and is perfect for going out in the evenings.

I decided to buy small bottles (50ml) of the John Freida volume shampoo and conditioner because I feel that while my hair is rather thick, it tends to be a little limp sometimes. I haven't used it yet, but it smells fantastic. I'll give a proper review after having used it for a while.

I got the GOSH concealer after having read a post on Zoe's blog and the nailpolish after seeing a video on YouTube a while back (I've forgotten where I saw it). I'll probably post a NOTD post sometime this week showing you what it looks like.

I got The Body Shop bronzer and kabuki because they were 25% off (that's reason enough!) and because, as you can see, I've almost finished my bronzer:

The brush is amazing, so soft and didn't shed when I washed it or anything (do you hear that GOSH?) I'm trying to build up my brush collection and everyone needs a kabuki right? I think that I'll use it for my MSFN.

The eyeshadows were acutally meant to be a prize in the giveaway. I went to MAC and saw that they were having a sale on some products from old collections. I browsed through the stuff, mainly looking at the eyeshadows and found a palette from the Dame Edna collection that I really liked, called Royal Tour, containing the eyeshadows, two purples and one bluey purple. I bought it and it wasn't until I got home that I realized that I had accidentally picked up the Wisteria palette (that'll teach me to read the label!). I can't return it because it was on sale, and I already have similar colours to the ones in the palette. So I thought that instead I'd give it to you guys!
Anyway, back to the Artdeco eyeshadows. I have never heard of this brand before, but I saw that you could buy an empty palette and choose colours to put in them, so I decided on two purples, they don't have names but the numbers are 90 (the lighter one) and 95 (the darker one). The pigmentation is pretty good and they're very soft, so they'll probably be easy to blend. I'm not sure how I'll wear them yet, but when I do I'll post pictures.

I think that's all I got, sorry if this post is a bit all over the place, I have a headache but I wanted to post it now, because I'll be really busy soon.
I'm going to post the giveaway post next, don't miss it!

Monkey Curls & Haulette

I've reached 20 followers! I'm soooo happy and so grateful to the 20 people who take their time to look at my blog, seriously as soon as I see I have a new follower I immediately check who it is and follow them back :)
There will be a giveaway soon, I'll be buying things this week/weekend so expect it sometimes next week.

Last weekend (I think) I picked up a couple of things I thought I'd share with you. I've also included mini-reviews on two of the products.

L-R: Bourjois Anti-Shine Blotting Sheets; The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream; GOSH Soft'n Shine Lipbalm in no 30 Barbie; GOSH Professional Powder Brush

GOSH Soft'n Shine Lip Balm in no 30: Barbie
Without flash

With flash

I got this after borrowing my sister's a couple of weeks ago. I really like it so far, it's not too pink and it feels soft and nourishing on the lips, plus is smells so good! I can't really describe it, it's a very sweet almost marshmallow-y smell. :) I really recommend it.

GOSH Professional Powder Brush

I got this because I was tired of using the same brush for my MSFN, bronzer and blusher. To be honest I'm not really to happy with it. Here's what it says on the packet:

"This brush is rounded and incredibly soft to work with. Ideal for all types of loose and compact powder. 100% natural hair."

First of all, this brush isn't all that soft. It's nowhere near as soft as my Body Shop face and body brush (or whatever it's called) and I've had that for over three years! It feels a bit rough against my skin and doesn't blend all that well, forcing me to use it for my MSFN, which is not what I intended it for when I bought it. The second thing is that it sheds quite a lot. I've only cleansed it once so far, so maybe it will lessen over time, but this is not the quality I was expecting, since I've been happy with all my other GOSH products. Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to go buy a MAC brush, or a second body shop brush!

And now on to the second half of the post.
This weekend was not fun at all! I spent all of Saturday and a bit of Sunday studying chemistry! Not much fun I can tell you. So on Sunday night I decided to pamper myself a little so I had a bath and applied some honey on my face. I also washed my hair, which is something I rarely do in the evenings, I am a strict morning hair washing girl (is that even a word? haha). The reason I never do this is that if I fall asleep with my hair even slightly damp it sticks out at funny angles and stays that way all day, forcing me to wet it again before going out, which rather defeats the point of washing it in the evening anyway. Usually I just sleep with my hair in plaits (braids) but they tend to fall out in the night. So last night I decided to try a very old fashioned way of curling hair over night: rag curling!
What I did is I got an old top which is too small (and has 'monkey business' written on it, hence the title) and cut it into ten strips, about three inches wide and however long the top was. I then proceeded to roll my hair by placing the centre of the rag over a strand of hair (the smaller the strand, the tighter the curls) and rolling upwards to my scalp. I then tied the ends of the rag into a knot and did the same with the rest of my hair. In case you're interested I did five rolls on each side, two on the lower layers and three on the top. I felt like someone from a Jane Austen novel when I was done! I then went to bed and unrolled my hair in the morning.
I thought I'd show you the results:

Sorry if I don't look happy, it was rather early in the morning!

I hadn't expected my hair to turn out so curly!
If any of you have, or are going to try this, I'd love to hear about it or even see pictures!
I couldn't be bothered to put anything in my hair to hold the curls in better, so now they have dropped a bit, but are still pretty curly. Next time I do this, however, I will apply some leave-in conditioner to the ends of my hair because they got a bit dry!

Hope you all had a lovely Monday, I'm off to study for a maths test (how I love to be a student!)

Rave of the Night

Hey guys! Just wanted to do a quick post showing you how I wore my makeup last night. I went to a rave party, but decided not to risk going too rave and looking silly, so I opted on a yellow & black smokey eye. I was pleased with the finished result so I thought I'd share it with you.

I have finally found a good angle for eye pictures! yay!

I'm still getting the hang of taking pictures of the eyes closed, any tips?

I didn't use anything new, but I'll list it anyway.

GOSH Touch up concealer no5
GOSH cover corrector stick no1
L'oreal true match foundation in C1 Rose Ivory
Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid foundation in Nude
MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Medium
The Body Shop bronzing powder
The Body Shop cheek bloom in 02 dune pink
MAC Shroom e/s used to highlight

GOSH Eyeshadow Base
GOSH e/s nr 283 (yellow)
MAC e/s in Print
MAC Shroom e/s
GOSH Eye liner pen in black
GOSH Let's Twist eye liner in carbon black
Maybelline Colossal Volum'Express Mascara

And now onto the rave:
I recently bought the e/s base from GOSH and decided last night to really put it to the test. I applied my makeup at about 7PM and then went to a pre-party and then to the rave, which was v. hot and sticky. When I got home at about 1AM and looked at my eye makeup the eyeshadows had NOT MOVED. Seriously, all my other makeup had melted away, but my eyes looked like I'd just done them. I am so happy and this has definitely lessened my longing for Urban Decay Primer Potion (though I do still want it!). Mind, I did use a GOSH e/s on top so maybe it works best with those, I'll try it with MAC e/ss soon.

Hope you'll all have a lovely weekend!

Mizz Worthy's Heroes & Villains contest entry!

This is my entry for Mizz Worthy's Heroes & Villains contest.

I chose Mystique as my villain, because, having seen all the X-Men films, I have always thought she's pretty cool. She is a shapeshifter, meaning that she can take on the form of any person, and she is also very agile. Her skin is blue (in the film it's covered with symbols, but I'm not sure about the comics), her hair is fiery red hair and her eyes are yellow.
I drew my inspiration from her skin and eyes, I didn't use red at all simply because I have no red lipstick! Sad I know. After applying my face makeup as usual, I used blue eyeshadow and created a simple smokey eye and then removed the eyeshadow on my lid, close to my lashes (using a Q-tip soaked in eye makeup remover) and then applied yellow eyeshadow around the eye to mimic her eyes. I mixed both the blue and the yellow eyeshadow with a bit of water to make the colours more dramatic, but sadly it did not show very well on camera. Finally to make the whole look a bit more dramatic I used blue eyeshadow and a Q-tip to create some designs around my eyes. I created the arrows to symbolise her ability to change her form and the circles to fill in the space. (NOTE: My left side looks a lot better than my right one, please look more closely at the left :)) As a final touch, and because of my lack of red lipstick, I applied some lipbalm and then dabbed blue eyeshadow onto my lips.
All that was needed now was a camera and a fierce expression!
So here is my take on Mystique!

Products used:
GOSH Touch up concealer no5
GOSH cover corrector stick no1
L'oreal true match foundation in C1 Rose Ivory
MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Medium
The Body Shop bronzing powder
The Body Shop cheek bloom in 02 dune pink

MAC e/s in Print
GOSH e/s Ocean Drive Quad (blue used)
GOSH e/s nr 283 (yellow)
GOSH Eye liner pen in black
GOSH Let's Twist eye liner in carbon black

I had a lot of fun creating this look. It's nice to come out of your shell once in a while and do something different and more daring!

It wasn't until I had taken the pictures and removed all of my makeup that I realise that I had totally forgotten to apply mascara! Hope you will forgive me, but since my lashes are pretty long and dark, I think I get away with it. Just to give you an idea of what my lashes would have looked like with mascara, here's a picture of my first attempt for the contest (which I didn't use because I didn't feel it was dark enough and I didn't have enough time to play with the symbols) The mascara (not) used is Maybelline Colossal Volum'Express

Thank you for reading this post! And thank you Mizz Worthy and Illamasqua for hosting this amazing contest!

GOSH haul (and small update)

Hey guys! Sorry it's been so long since I've posted but I've been really busy over the last few days. School has started and I've got a ton of homework already! I was also working yesterday. In my city there's something called Culture Night (loosely translated) where everyone goes into town and there are lots of things to do and see and then there's a firework show in the evening and lots of parties. Anyway, I was working for the city this summer as a tourist guide and was asked to work last night as a sort of 'Culture Night Servant' So basically if there was something that needed doing I, and a couple of other people, would do it. Sorry, it's kind of hard to explain. Anyway we were supposed to be dressed in all black and then a designer called STEiNUNN gave us some hats to wear. We looked pretty silly, but a lot of tourists took pictures of us.
So anyway, that was just a small, boring, update on what's been going on. Now onto the haul!

I picked these up in two trips, on Wednesday and Thursday. I got a single yellow eyeshadow, number 283 (I need this for a look for a contest), Tropical Beach e/s quad and the Eyeshadow Base.

That's me wearing the hat yesterday, I have no idea why I look so unhappy though!

Those are the things I got, I probably don't need to tell you which is which.

Top row L-R: yellow e/s, e/s base, e/ss from the quad (I love those greens!)
Bottom row L-R: e/ss from quad and yellow e/s with the base underneath.

That's all for now, my homework is calling to me!
Hope you're all well.

OH! I forgot to mention that I will be having a small giveaway when I hit 20 followers, as a small thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I really appreciate it. :) Only two more to go!

Ten facts tag :)

I was tagged by the lovely precious smileyy (go check her out) to do a ten facts about me tag. :) So here we go in no particular order:

1) I'm currently sitting on my bed watching a House episode (I love Hugh Laurie! He is so brilliant, especially paired with Stephen Fry)
2) My room is really messy right now, school has just started (more info in the update post that will be posted tomorrow, actually later today since it's past midnight) and there are books everywhere!
3) I'm currently reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, but it's a really old edition (my grandma's) so I can't take it anywhere so I'm also reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton (I really recommend it!).
4) I'm reading both of these books for the second time.
5) I should be reading The Animal Farm for English, and some Icelandic sagas for Icelandic, but I can't be bothered.
6) I love reading, just in case you couldn't tell
7) I also love rain. I always open my window if it's raining when I'm goddly comforting so satisfying about sitting with a great big pile of odd socks and finding their partners. I know I'm weird. :P
9) I can't seem to keep my facts short!
10) I'm going to bed. :)

I tag:
Alice (An Alien World)
Louise (Affordable Treats)
Rafi (Rafa says)
and anyone who wants to do this!

I'm going to bed now but will post an update on what's been going on with me and a small GOSH haul :)

Night night

Quick & Easy Pain Relief.

Hey guys, hope you're all well. I just thought that I would share with you a quick, easy and free way of getting pain relief, though I hope you won't have to use it much, because pain is no fun!
If any of you do, or have done, yoga you may already have learnt this, at least that's where I learnt it. It's just a very simple breathing exercise that I find nearly always helps to rid me of any pain, be it head, stomach or otherwise.
You can do this wherever, whenever and it whatever position you like, standing, sitting lying, walking running or wherever you find yourself at the time. All you need to do is this:

1. Take as deep a breath as you want or can. It really doesn't matter how deep or shallow it is.
2. Count to eight slowly. (IMPORTANT: If you find yourself feeling faint or dizzy before you get to eight then exhale. I wouldn't want you all fainting because of me! :) )
3. Exhale slowly.
4. Repeat 7 more times, or until pain has subsided.

When I first learnt this we sat in the lotus position and leant forward as we breathed in and then came up again as we exhaled, but I find that it is unnecessary (and often impossible) to do this, for it works both ways.

This exercise can be used for almost any pain, though I use it most for headaches, period pain or car sickness (I'm very prone to that). I have also found that it helps to relieve stress, very useful during exams!

Anyway, I just thought I'd share it with you since I think it's good to try this before going for the painkillers. :)
Oh, and sorry if this post seems a bit all over the place, because I'm a little bit all over the place at the moment.

Hope you're having a good weekend!

20 questions!

Thanks tackyblueeyeshadow
for tagging me. :)

1. What is your favorite item of clothing? Well, I am in LOVE with the trousers I got last week. They're from Vero Moda and they're the exact same colour as my OPI Done out in Deco! I was even wearing the nail polish when I saw them. :P They're sort of a skinny jean type but a bit stretchy and they fit me perfectly! I'm going back for the black ones.

2. What are your biggest obsessions? Reading I guess... I think I'm too new to makeup-loving to be obsessed.

3. Who inspires you? Not one person..mainly things I see, read or hear...films mostly.

4. Who is your favorite designer and why? Gosh...I can't choose just one..I guess I'd have to say Karl Lagerfeld. I like his designs and I also like the fact that he's designed for Chanel but also for H&M :)

5. What is your favorite song ever? Well, going by the most played song on my iPod it is 'From Where You Are' by Lifehouse

6. What is your favorite song right now? Since I just finished watching Breakfast At Tiffany's I have to say Moon River sung by Audrey Hepburn :)

7. If you were a sweetie, what would you be? A marshmallow - best toasted.
No sorry, that was a joke. Probably a pear drop..dunno why though.

8. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet - what words would you use to describe your rainbow? Uhm..Not quite sure what to I supposed to pick a colour or something?

9. What's your favorite film? Ah, so hard to choose just one! Well, my all-time favourite since I was little is Beauty and the Beast, but also High Society.

10. Who's your favorite actor? OK, I'm going to abandon my love-of-many-years Johnny Depp and say Gerard Butler, I just love him.

11. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
If I'm going to be boring I'd say England because that's where I really belong, but otherwise Italy!

12. What are your 3 favorite smells? Old books (they remind me of my grandparents), the smell of rain and that fresh, cold smell just before it snows.

13. What are your 3 favorite tastes? Cherries, chocolate and Tic Tacs, again they remind me of my grandparents.

14. What is your most treasured possession? Umm..I don't know..myself? Probably the novel I'm writing, I have like 5 backups of it in case my computer crashes. :)

15. What did you always want to do/be when you grew up? From when I was about six, till two years ago I was going to be an archaeologist in Egypt.

16. If you were an ice-cream, what flavor would you be? Cherry

17. If someone made a short film of your life, who would play you? No idea...some new actress who no-one knew.

18. What would your perfect afternoon consist of? Curling up with a good book, some snacks and a cup of tea.

19. If you were a flower, what would you be? A dandelion clock. I know it's a weed.

20. Tell me a random thing - a quote, a line from a song, book, movie... 'I go wherever the wind takes me.' The Lollipop Shoes by Joanne Harris

Yet another contest!

I keep entering but never winning, oh well c'est la vie. Moving on...

I came across this fabulous contest via this blog and immediately wanted to enter.

It's KonADDICT's give-away featuring the Konad "B" Kit. You get four image plates, three special polishes, a stamper and a scraper!

I have never tried Konad myself, but have watch lots of videos on YouTube and read about it on blogs and have wanted to try it for some time now.
Basically what it is, if you don't already know, is nail art made simple! You get an image plate, apply the special nail polish on the image of choice (and DO use the special nail polish, it's special for a reason), scrape off the excess with your scraper, press down on the image with your stamper, roll it on your nail, and voila! Perfectly decorated nails!

I've had a look at KonADDICT's blog and I really think it's a must for anyone who likes to decorate his/her nails. Not only are the designs wonderful (seriously, I could never do that!) but it is also a great place to get inspiration for your own designs!

TAG: Bridget wants

In this tag you're supposed to go to google, type in your name and 'wants' and see what comes up. Then write down the first five things that come up, so long as they make sense.

Here goes nothing:

Bridget wants:
1. a baby (there's going to be a third Bridget Jones film!! yay)
2. to talk to you Krissy lol (random!)
3. privacy for her son
4. to move her career in entertainment forward and gets a lesson in commercial voiceovers
5. to know what everything is

and on that philosophical note, I bid you a good night.

p.s. I tag whoever reads this.

I always get sidetracked...

I was supposed to be tidying up my bedroom today but, as often happens with me, I wound up doing something completely different.

After watching Elle's (Allthatglitters21) video on how to paint the tips of your brushes, I decided to give it a go. I chose OPI's Done out in deco (love) and here are my results:

I snapped a picture while they were drying

I own a very pathetic brush collection. All I have are the Body Shop's face brush and then 4 small brushes from the travel kit (but I've lost the lip liner) and then the MAC 217. So I cannot wait to order the Sigma brush set next week!

While I was ransacking my wardrobe I found a top and a pair of sandals I haven't worn in ages. The top is from Topshop (the Kate Moss line) and the reason I haven't worn it much is because I didn't really like the neckline or the shoulder bits. I do, however, love the design on the front so I decided to see if I couldn't do something about it. So after hacking away with my scissors for about 15 minutes, I wound up with this.

And as for the sandals. About three years ago I had my heart set on owning a pair of silver sandals. I think I wore them twice, and then stuck them in my wardrobe. Today I decided that I would rather own a pair of gold sandals and painted them with some gold paint I had lying around. I'm rather pleased with the results:

So all in all I had a rather productive day...although my bedroom still needs tidying!
Quoting Scarlett O'Hara: 'I won't think about that today. I'll think about it tomorrow'.

Blackcurrant Cheesecake look

A couple of weeks ago I was eating a blackcurrant cheesecake, and while I was looking at it I noticed how the purple from the blackcurrants kind of bled into the white of the cheese, making it pink. This inspired me to do a make up look based on the cake:

This is not the one I ate, I found it on Google.

So this is what I came up with:

Products used:
GOSH Touch up concealer no5
GOSH cover corrector stick no1
L'oreal true match foundation in C1 Rose Ivory
MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Medium
The Body Shop bronzing powder
The Body Shop cheek bloom in 02 dune pink

GOSH waterproof eyeshadow stick in Love that champagne
MAC All that glitters e/s
MAC Sable e/s
MAC Sushi Flower e/s
MAC Fig 1 e/s
GOSH eye liner pen in Black
Maybelline Colossal mascara

First (and last?) MAC brush!

On Thursday I finally got a call from my local MAC store telling me that the MSFN and the 217 brush were in stock. So I went and bought them on Friday.

This is my first MAC powder. I chose it after seeing many bloggers and youtubers rave about it. I got it in medium. So far I'm liking it! I have only had powders from three other brands, the Body Shop (my first ever), Clinique and Shiseido. I think that I'll try the L'oreal True Match powder next.

The 217 brush was a (very late) birthday present from my brother and sister, as they didn't have it in when she was going to buy it. It's so good! I've never had a proper blending brush before, until now I've been using the Body Shop's blush brush from the travel kit, using an elastic band around it to make it smaller...very innovative, but let me tell you did not give me the best result! So I am thrilled to have this one.

I recently watched a video by the lovely Blair reviewing the Sigma brushes. Now I think that I will be ordering the complete brush set, since it's not hugely expensive, and all the reviews I have looked at say that they are really good, as in almost as good as MAC. So I'm pretty sure that I'll be ordering them sometime next week when I've been paid. I don't think I'll be getting the brush roll, mainly because I won't really need it, when I travel I don't think I'll be taking all of my brushes, only the most vital ones.

So that was it for my little MAC haul.
